AKHUWAT’S QARZ-E-HASNA SCHEME
EMPOWERING
PEOPLE TO EARN AND LIVE WITH DIGNITY
£671M Distributed to 5.5M Needy Families
More than 60 million self-employed and unemployed in Pakistan struggle to earn
enough. But with your Zakat and Sadaqah, Akhuwat’s Qarz-e-Hasna Scheme, our
revolutionary Islamic Micro-lending programme is changing that!
Qarz-e-Hasna is based on Shariah (zero interest) and the principle of Mawakhat
(brotherhood). Advances are given to worthy recipients who repay only the capital in
small monthly instalments. No interest. No one makes a profit off their hard work but
them.
When these advances are repaid, these funds are reused for the next borrower,
making our Qarz-e-Hasna completely sustainable. Your Zakat and Sadaqah are
used over and over again earning you multiple rewards.

Types of Qarz-e-Hasna
We have various types of Qarz-e-Hasna, all of which are relatively small amounts paid back within short periods.
Family Enterprise Lending
We lend your Zakat and Sadaqah as Qarz-e-Hasna to family-owned businesses and other small-scale enterprises. This allows self-employed people to improve their earnings, or unemployed people to start a business. Help people become entrepreneurs and make the most of their skills to lift themselves out of poverty.
Liberation Lending
Help free people from unscrupulous lenders, known as Baniyas, who charge exorbitant interest and trap them into a life of never-ending repayments. We settle the outstanding balance (interest and all) with the moneylender, which our borrowers repay without interest, in small monthly instalments. Free a person from usurers and help them regain control of their lives.
Agriculture Lending
We grant Qarz-e-Hasna to subsistence farmers, and tenant farmers who work their landlords’ plots. These advances allow them to purchase equipment, seeds and fertiliser to increase yields. Support small farmers so they can thrive.
Housing Lending
Many Pakistanis lost their homes in the 2022 floods. Because most earn barely enough to live on, they have no means to rebuild or renovate. Our Housing Lending Scheme assists by giving them the funds they need to repair and repair houses that have been damaged or destroyed. Give needy people the means to rebuild their homes and their lives.
Marriage Lending
Marriage expenses are a huge responsibility for parents in Pakistan and poor
families struggle to pay for weddings and dowries. Our Marriage Lending Qarz-
e-Hasna grants advances to help with these expenses.
Help poor couples marry with dignity and honour.
Education Lending
We help worthy students whose families cannot afford to pay for their further
education. Once qualified, they have better earning opportunities. With your
help, they can end the cycle of poverty.
Give needy students the chance to upgrade their skills to make them more
employable.
Health Lending
Health emergencies can mean death and disaster for needy people. We help by advancing funds for necessary treatment so people can heal and thrive. Better health also means they can work and become independent. Help save lives and give independence through vital medical aid by donating your Zakat and Sadaqah to our Health Lending Scheme.
Emergency Lending
Emergencies impact us all at some point. But for poor families, with little or no savings to absorb the shock, emergencies can threaten lives and livelihoods. Your Zakat and Sadaqah can help people recover from losses in business and farming, and with urgent healthcare expenses. Give needy people a helping hand when they need it most.
